AC Milan's departure to Qatar for Supercoppa delayed 24 hours

AC Milan have been forced to delay their departure for the Italian Supercoppa in Doha by 24 hours because of a technical problem with their charter flight.

The Rossoneri were due to depart from Italy on Tuesday after training in the morning, but a technical problem to the plane they had chartered to take them to Doha meant it was stuck in London and could not pick up Vincenzo Montella's men.

Milan will therefore depart on Wednesday, rather than waiting for the problem to be fixed and leaving later on Tuesday and arriving late in the evening at their base for Friday night's final.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Lega Serie A have given Milan permission to arrive in Doha later than planned.

On the other hand, opponents Juventus had no such problems with their departure for Qatar.

Massimiliano Allegri took a squad of 24 players on board the charter flight from Turin on Tuesday, with the team due to arrive in the evening, now with a 24-hour head start over their opponents and therefore more time to acclimatise to the local conditions.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani says his team will be at a disadvantage.

"We've suffered a serious sporting disadvantage," Galliani said. "Juventus is already there in the warmth, tomorrow they'll train with 20 degrees more than there are in Milan, while we will arrive at night and will only be able to do the finishing touches there, the evening before.''
