Gianluigi Donnarumma, 17, eyes AC Milan captaincy 'maybe in 10 years'

Gianluigi Donnarumma wants to be AC Milan's captain someday, the 17-year-old goalkeeper confirmed on Friday.

The Italy international broke into the San Siro side's first team as a 16-year-old and has since firmed his position as the team's undisputed first-choice keeper.

And though Donnarumma is living a dream at Milan, he's hoping to have an even bigger role in the future.

"Playing for Milan was a dream," he told Il Corriere dello Sport. "Now that I've done that, I also hope to become captain. Maybe in 10 years, though.

"I am a regular in the team. It could not get any better.

Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon has been a mainstay in the Italy goal for years, and at 38 shows no signs of slowing down evidenced by a standout performance in Juve's Champions League defeat of Lyon midweek despite being a man down.

With the Bianconeri and Rossoneri set to clash at the San Siro on Saturday, Donnarumma hailed his his idol's longevity in the sport.

"Where do I see myself at 38 years old? I hope to still be on the field -- hopefully in a Milan shirt," he said.

Donarumma also described how the legendary Buffon has been an influence on his own fledgling career.

"[Buffon] is special. Through the Italy national team, I have met a wonderful person. He helps me a lot.

"The whole group, however, is exceptional. I was shaken when I was first called up, but I was very well received. On the first night, they were all already joking with me."
