AC Milan considered Frank De Boer before Inter appointment - Galliani

AC Milan considered appointing current Inter Milan coach Frank De Boer in the summer, according to Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani.

De Boer was appointed to succeed Roberto Mancini as Inter boss in August after stepping down from his role at Ajax, where he won four Eredivisie titles as coach.

However, the Dutchman could well have ended up at their city rivals, Galliani says, only for Milan to opt to hire Vincenzo Montella instead.

"Montella, De Boer and [Sampdoria boss Marco] Giampaolo were all candidates to become our coach," Galliani told Milan Channel. "There were six options in total, including [Cristian] Brocchi and two giants with great experience.

"We then decided to sign Montella and we are pleased with our choice. Montella's teams play good football and this is something Silvio Berlusconi, myself and fans appreciate. We have to continue playing like this."

Milan, who sit third in Serie A after five matches, face Fiorentina on Sunday off the back of Tuesday's 2-0 victory over Lazio.
