AC Milan legends rule out return amid influx of former Inter directors

AC Milan legends Andriy Shevchenko, Alessandro Costacurta and Demetrio Albertini have all ruled out returns to the club with an influx of former Inter Milan directors causing concern.

Marco Fassone, a former general director at Inter, is set to take on the same role at the Rossoneri once a takeover by Chinese investors is completed at the end of the year.

One of his first jobs is reported to be the appointment of Inter's chief scout Andrea Mirabelli as sporting director and two other former Inter staff members -- Andrea Romeo and Marianna Mecacci -- are also set to join him on the other side of the city.

At least one former Milan great is wanted by the new owners to be a prominent figure in the new club set-up, but a trio of candidates have already ruled themselves out while taking a swipe at the Inter influx in the process.

"I've heard that some directors are arriving from Inter -- maybe they'll also change the club's name now," said Shevchenko to La Gazzetta dello Sport while appearing at a golf tournament in Italy.

"I've always said that [Paolo] Maldini would be perfect, but also Albertini and Costacurta have the right profiles and somebody like them is what is needed to give the club a new vision."

Meanwhile, at the weekend Albertini posted a suggestive tweet of a banner held aloft by a Milan fan which said "I am not Interista" on a red and black striped background.

Costacurta provided his own answer on Sky Sport Italia, saying: "Demetrio has just written what many Milan fans are thinking -- they had better not even try calling me."

Maldini is also unlikely to accept a return, telling Sky last week that he is "tired" of talking about it. "I have my own life and Milan will remain hugely important, and they remain my whole family's biggest love, but there is nothing more than that at the moment," he said.
