AC Milan Matias Fernandez out at least two weeks with thigh injury

Matias Fernandez will not be able to make his AC Milan debut at the weekend after clinical tests carried out on his return from international duty confirmed he had torn his thigh muscle.

The Chilean midfielder, who moved to the Rossoneri from Serie A rivals Fiorentina on transfer deadline day, picked up the injury while on international duty over the past week.

The full extent of the injury has not been revealed, however, with Italian media reporting that he could be out for a month.

Milan have limited themselves only to say further examinations will take place in two weeks' time.

"AC Milan announces that Mati Fernandez today went clinical exams which revealed a tear to the flexor muscle of the right thigh," read the club's statement. "The footballer will be re-evaluated in two weeks."

Milan coach Vincenzo Montella had been hoping to hand the 30-year-old, whom he had also coached at the Viola, his Milan debut in Sunday's league clash with Udinese.
