AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli seeking swift return after groin operation

Mario Balotelli has vowed to be back in action sooner than expected ahead of undergoing surgery on his groin in Munich on Wednesday.

Italy international Balotelli, 25, has not played since Sept. 27 due to the troublesome injury.

After consultations with specialists in Denmark and Germany, it has been decided that an operation is the only viable course of action, with his parent club Liverpool consenting to the surgery and AC Milan, where he is spending the season on loan, announcing the timeframe on their website.

"AC Milan communicates that [on Wednesday] Mario Balotelli will have surgery to correct a persistent groin injury in Munich, Germany," read the statement on Milan's official website.

"The injury has been ongoing for weeks and conservative treatment has not had the desired effect. The operation will be conducted by professor Ulrike Muschaweck."

The surgery effectively rules Balotelli out for the remainder of 2015, but he has vowed not to spend any longer on the sidelines than is absolutely necessary, posting a picture of the San Siro on his Instagram page, saying he will be back playing there "earlier than what you think!"

The forward has made four appearances for the Rossoneri this season and scored one goal.
