AC Milan coy over Mario Balotelli fitness amid reports of groin surgery

AC Milan general manager Adriano Galliani would not confirm whether striker Mario Balotelli requires surgery on a groin operation that would keep him sidelined until January, saying only that it is "up to the doctors" to announce the details.

Balotelli, who is back on loan with the Rossoneri from Liverpool, has not played since late September, when the injury first flared up.

With no sign of improvement almost two months on, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Italy international will fly to Munich on Tuesday for a final consultation which is set to be followed by an operation.

According to the report, Balotelli will see specialist Ulrike Muschaweck and an operation could be performed within 24 hours.

However, Galliani would only say to Mediaset television that "a decision has been taken" and that "everything we do is in agreement with Liverpool."

Renowned German surgeon Muschaweck has previously operated on Bayern Munich duo Xabi Alonso and Javi Martinez while they were still playing for Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao respectively.

After the operation, Balotelli would face an enforced break of around six weeks before returning to training. His club hope to have him back in action after the winter break, in early January.

Balotelli, 25, has made just four appearances for the Rossoneri this season, in which he has scored one goal. He has not featured since Sept. 27.
