Mario Balotelli has had his driving licence confiscated after being caught speeding, Italian news agency ANSA has reported.

Balotelli, 25, has been spending time at his family home in Brescia since completing his season-long return to AC Milan on loan from Liverpool for a season.

The news, originally broken by local paper Il Giornale di Brescia, said he had been caught exceeding the limit by a speed camera near the house last week.

Balotelli was reported to have been driving his Lamborghini at over 90 kmph in a residential area with a limit of 50 kmph.

Italian law meant he had to hand over his licence immediately and the report said was calm when questioned by police officers, telling them: "I'm sorry, but I hadn't realised [that he had been driving so fast]."

When Balotelli joined Milan earlier in the summer, it was claimed he had signed a special agreement that meant the club could rescind his contract immediately if he were to transgress in any way.

It remains to be seen whether the reported speeding incident will lead to any action being taken by club officials.
