Filippo Inzaghi thanks AC Milan, rues brief chance as manager

Filippo Inzaghi has expressed his disappointment at being relieved of his duties as AC Milan coach after just one year in the position.

The 41-year-old was officially dismissed by the Rossoneri on Tuesday morning after leading them to a 10th-placed finish in Serie A last season. Sinisa Mihajlovic was appointed as his successor later on Tuesday, but Inzaghi says he would have welcomed a bit longer to turn the club's fortunes around.

"An unforgettable experience which has enriched me both professionally and personally ends this way," wrote Inzaghi on his Facebook page. "I'd like to thank AC Milan for having granted me this great opportunity. I gave it my very best, together with all of my staff, working every single day with extreme desire, passion and dedication.

"Unfortunately it was not enough and things did not go how we -- I first and foremost -- had hoped.

"What's left is bitterness and disappointment not to have been given an opportunity to carry on. After a year of experience, I would have been even more motivated and expert, but this is football."

While Milan's message announcing Inzaghi's dismissal was rather cold and free of emotion, Inzaghi was warmer in thanking Milan for giving him the job in the first place.

"I'd like to send a hug and a heartfelt good luck to all of the players who followed me in these months," he continued. "Despite the difficulties, they always showed professionalism and respect.

"I'd also like to thank the Rossoneri fans who, right to the very end, even while suffering, were always close to me. I'd like to express a particular thought for the lads in the Curva Sud...thanks for your moving message.

"Milan will always have a place in my heart...I will be supporting and screaming for you...always and no matter what. Hugs and see you soon."

Termina così un'esperienza indimenticabile, che mi ha arricchito sia da un punto di vista professionale che...
