Adriano Galliani backs Filippo Inzaghi to remain as AC Milan coach

AC Milan general manager Adriano Galliani says coach Filippo Inzaghi may still have a future at the club, even if they fail to qualify for Europe this season.

Inzaghi's future remains in doubt with the Rossoneri currently seven points adrift of the top six, and likely to miss out on the Europa League for the second year running.

But what would be a sporting failure for a club who had appeared predominantly in the Champions League for the previous six seasons may not have consequences for the 41-year-old coach, according to Galliani.

"I'm convinced that if we do well between now and the end of the season, he will remain our coach next year," he told Milan Channel. "Pippo's got a contract for next year and he's still our coach now."

Galliani has leapt to Inzaghi's defence, bemoaning an injury situation which would have given even the most experienced coach a hard time since the turn of the year.

Milan have picked up 18 points in their last 15 games, thanks largely to a run of two wins and a draw from their last three matches.

With eight games of the season remaining Milan need to sustain their recent form to stand any chance of catching the top six, but Galliani has not given up faith.

"Seven points are a lot, but until it's mathematically impossible, we've got to believe," he added. "It's not about Europe or not -- we need to bring the season to a good conclusion."
