AC Milan midfielder Nigel De Jong hints at summer departure

Nigel De Jong has cast doubt over his future at AC Milan, saying he is not sure whether he will still be at the Serie A club next season.

The 30-year-old, hoping to make a comeback from the thigh injury that kept him out of games against Verona and Fiorentina, has been linked with a move to Manchester United, managed by his fellow Dutchman Louis van Gaal.

"I'm currently a Milan player, but we'll have to see for next season," he was quoted as saying by Milan's official website.

Milan's potential failure to qualify for Europe for a second successive season may prompt De Jong to look for a fresh challenge elsewhere.

"I'm a person who always wants to win," he said. "Football's like this, and there are negative moments, but we've got to improve.

"We've got 12 games left. Let's see how things go in the future. Like I say, I always want to win, even in situations like this."

But De Jong backed under-pressure coach Filippo Inzaghi, saying: "He's not the only person responsible for this situation. We, the players, are also.

"We've got to try to improve to get out of this situation together."
