AC Milan's Filippo Inzaghi stays with 'glass hall-full' approach after draw

Manager Filippo Inzaghi says he's taking a ''glass half-full' approach as AC Milan's run without a win away from home reached eight games with a goalless draw at Chievo on Saturday.

Milan's last win away from the San Siro came on on Oct. 19 against Hellas Verona, but they could not duplicate the feat in their return to the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi.

"I look at the glass half-full, because it's our second consecutive clean sheet, but then once again we lost two important players to injury and wasted scoring opportunities," Inzaghi told Sky Sports.

"I believe we've improved in our possession over the last two games, but we didn't score and that's the real regret today."

Keisuke Honda came closest to breaking the deadlock with an audacious effort that shook the crossbar shortly after half-time.

"I thought we tried to play and certainly did better in the second half, creating chances with Honda hitting the woodwork and that counter three against two," Inzaghi said.

The manager also explained his sparing use of Alessio Cerci -- a late sub in three consecutive games after a high-profile move from Atletico Madrid -- who replaced the injured Nigel de Jong in the closing stages.

"There were 10 minutes to go and it was a little risky, but we wanted to win," Inzaghi said. "I put [Giacomo] Bonaventura into midfield, as everywhere you put him he can do a job.

"It's best to keep a substitution open for the final 15 minutes, as you never know if you're going to lose someone to injury and be left with 10 men.

"We tried to use four attacking players, but unfortunately our midfielders are not in great shape after injury and a team requires balance. For the moment we'll alternate them.

"Alessio can play as a support striker and could be a trequartista in better condition. It hurts me too that I leave out players like Cerci and [Giampaolo] Pazzini, but these are the circumstances right now.

"Alessio is a player I wanted and we'll get the best out of him, but let's not forget he barely played for six months, so needs time to find his form.

"We tried to score in every possible way tonight. I thought Mattia Destro had a great performance and worked hard for the team."
