AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi makes plea for patience

Under-fire AC Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi has appealed to the club's fans to be patient and give him time to get things right.

The Rossoneri, who were held to a 1-1 home draw by Empoli on Sunday to drop to 11th in Serie A, have collected just five points from a possible 21 since the start of 2015.

Only bottom-side Parma have a worse record than that in Italy's top flight.

"At this moment in time we cannot look at the league standings,'' Inzaghi told his club's official website. "We need to pick up a good win.

"Our new playing system needs time. It's obvious that the fans want more, we feel this pressure and we have to win to ease that pressure.

"Our fans are accustomed to different results but it takes time.

"We have to improve and get back to being a true team. My players need to get their confidence back.

"Above all, what matters most is that we return to winning.''

The Rossoneri have been plagued by injuries and lost three more players during Sunday's game with defenders Alex, Gabriel Paletta and Giacomo Bonaventura all going down with problems.

``We lost Alex to a fractured nose and he will undergo surgery on Monday,'' Inzaghi said. ``Paletta also picked up an injury while Bonaventura sustained a shoulder problem.

`` I haven't ever been able to field the same line-up for two matches in a row because I have always had players out injured or not 100 per cent.

``We need to get back some of our injured players.''

Making things more difficult for Inzaghi is that goalkeeper Diego Lopez as well as defenders Philippe Mexes and Paletta will all be suspended for Sunday's home game against Cesena.

Milan have won just seven of their 23 league games under Inzaghi, who replaced Clarence Seedorf at the helm of the Rossoneri last summer.

Inzaghi, the former AC Milan striker, is under contract with Milan until June 2016.
