AC Milan's Nigel de Jong may miss Inter Milan clash due to injury

AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong is a doubt for the derby della Madonnina against Inter Milan on Nov. 23 after pulling out of the Netherlands squad with injury.

De Jong, 29, was forced to withdraw from international duty with the Oranje ahead of Wednesday's friendly against Mexico due to a hamstring problem.

The former Manchester City player hurt himself during Saturday's 2-2 draw at Sampdoria and will also miss Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier against Latvia in Amsterdam.

An official statement from Milan read: "De Jong has left the Netherlands national team training ground to return to Milan. His condition will be evaluated by the Rossoneri medical team.''

De Jong has scored two goals in 10 league appearances for his club this season.

Milan, coached by Filippo Inzaghi, are seventh in the standings and host city rivals Inter after the international break looking to halt a four-match winless streak in Serie A.
